CrossRef

Crossref makes research objects easy to find, cite, link, assess, and reuse.

CrossRef is not-for-profit membership organization that exists to make scholarly communications better. They rally the community; tag and share metadata; run an open infrastructure; play with technology; and make tools and services to all to help put research in context. Metadata enables connections.

CrossRef offers a wide array of services to ensure that scholarly research metadata is registered, linked, and distributed. When members register their content with the CrossRef, they collect both bibliographic and non-bibliographic metadata.

CrossRef processes it so that connections can be made between publications, people, organizations, and other associated outputs. They preserve the metadata we receive for the scholarly record. We also make it available across a range of interfaces and formats so that the community can use it and build tools with it. Some of their services are only available to members - most of these services are included in membership but some involve an extra fee (marked *).

CrossRef also offers a range of services free of charge to the scholarly community, with the option of premium service versions at an extra charge (marked ~). Metadata retrieval (including Metadata Plus~)* Content Registration Reference linking Cited-by Funder Registry Similarity Check* Crossmark Event Data More information is available on the CrossRef website.
